Following her debut in Tekken 3(1997), Xiaoyu has since made an appearance in every installment after. She's portrayed as a caring and cheerful character who is also very firm and determined as shown in her cinematics and her skills. Although her size doesn't conjure up images of strength, she's far from weak. Equipped with a wide range of tools, agility and determination, she's able to quickly and effectively move in while also avoiding many of the other characters moves with her use of her iconic Art of Phoenix stance (AOP) by lowering herself close to the ground.
1. A great poke and also her 10 frame punisher, this string can be delayed, allows her to go into backturn, or keeps her facing forward by holding back after 2nd hit. Although the string has a third hit, it is unsafe to finish it due to the being steppable to the left and punishable on block.
2. This move is a tool of many uses; it allows her to go into backturn and it is used in many combos. On counter hit, it allows for a free backturn 4; the opponent must hold forward after getting hit with it to avoid the follow-up launcher. It's worth noting that BT 4 is not safe, so a "sharp" opponent could launch it on block.
3. A good low poke that leads to a combo if it lands counter hit, in which f,F+3 must be used.
4. Her orbital (an arching midair kick) is good for pressure and allows her to go into her famed AOP stance(D+1+2 during animation); causing many opponents to whiff if they retaliate. Unlike most orbitals in the game, Xiaoyu's orbital must land counter hit in order for it to combo.
5. A solid 14 frame normal hit launcher, this move has really good range that allows her to launch things some characters cannot. f,F+3 must be timed in order for it to combo.
6. Another effective low poke that good for opening up the opponent and can lead to a combo on counter hit.
7. A special kind of low that doesn't do damage but will guarantee a free shoulder (f+1+2) if the low lands counter hit.
